The Photographer:
I have always had a love for photography and enjoyed pursuing it as a hobby, but it wasn’t until just recently at the encouragement of a friend that I decided to combine that passion with the desire and willingness to offer affordable, professional quality prints as a service to others.
Why Muddy Art?:
Isaiah 64:8 says, “Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” I was reading through this passage in my Bible one day in 1999 and was struck with the thought that I am a piece of muddy art . . . constantly being molded and shaped into who God wants me to be, a reflection of Christ. We are all the work of the Potter’s hand and I am thrilled to capture even a hint of that beauty from a unique perspective.
The Focus:
My focus is on natural portraiture, capturing my subjects in natural light and a relaxed atmosphere. There is nothing more fun during a photo shoot than having a great time at the park or in your backyard where the kids can be themselves and I can capture their true personalities. I have heard people say that photographers should avoid pets and children at all costs, but I don’t subscribe to that philosophy. I’m willing to do maternity shoots, children, pets, families, special events or even senior portraits. I am not a wedding photographer but would be willing to be a 2nd photographer for your wedding. If there are any other scenarios that you’d like to discuss, please feel free to contact me. All photos will be processed in black and white, but they will be available to you in color as well.
The Session:
When you book your session, we will discuss locations and times to meet. I will come to your home or meet you at a local park or another location that we agree upon. I am available most evenings or weekends; however, you will just need to keep in mind that natural lighting is often best during the mid-morning or afternoon hours, depending on the weather. You can expect your session to last about one hour (or longer if you have young children who may need several breaks). One can never go wrong with the classic combinations of all black or all white shirts with denim for black and white photos, but most solid colors will photograph well. Please just make sure to dress in complimentary colors and avoid busy prints, logos, stripes and plaids, as they tend to put the focus on what you are wearing rather than on you. The key is just to come to your session expecting to have fun and be relaxed!
